Juvenile Crimes

In the recent few months various crimes were committed by young people, some by children as young as ten. These crimes varied from gang rape to murder for revenge and use of guns. I feel its time to change laws and consider children of twelve years as adults. With kids growing so fast because of media and internet exposure, I feel juvenile crimes should be tried in adult courts. What do you think ?

Circumstances compel so. Yes! Juveniles committing gruesome crimes should be tried by adult courts.
But this is only a treatment to the disease of violence by children. How to prevent such incidents from happening?
Domestic abuse, negilgence, excess violence in TV shows & Video-games, fanatical literatures, abuse of orphans and poor children - are some of the contributing factors for this evil.
And, ofcourse, even tyrants like Hitler and Saddam had battered childhood full of domestic violence that laid foundation to their perpetuation of large scale violence once they reached their positions of power.
Now, the younger generation, need not wait till they grow up. They get easy money if they help deliver drugs. Easy money, easy guns, easy drugs, and no wonder, violence is fun for them.
The movie 'City of God' throws some light into how children are initiated into violence.

Recently, 2 ten year old are arrested in UK on charges on raping an eight year old girl, who was their friend. Everyone's surprised how such small boys could do that. Well, excess TV watching and seductive websites in the Internet, have the capability to speed up the hormonal growth as well as the anxiety to do what one has seen. Who is to blame? The perpetrators of this crime or the day-by-day degrading society?

It makes me shudder thinking that kids are capable of doing these things. At such a young age, their minds have already been corrupted. Kids are still kids and they need to be protected.

We need to ask ourselves first who is responsible for those young men?

Sounds like a good idea since kids as young as 8 know how to even shoot a gun. But, I disagree. Not because im a teenager myself, but because our minds are not fully developed into thinking about what were doing and how bad the consequences are. Think about it. What are children exposed to now-a-days? Violent games, disturbing movies, and parents dont even acknowledge it. Nothing's wrong with children who commit these crimes, they just need to be lead a different direction. I can actually relate to this. A few weekends ago me my cousins, 10 and 16, and a few friends, were at the movies. my 1 yr old cousin went to go see precious! If you dont know Precious is a very graphic movie that shows rape and violence. Me my oldest cousin and my brother went to go see new moon. Letting my little cousin go see Precious is a bad move, and I really hope it doesnt get into her head.

We have to keep in mind that media tend to focus on the extreme cases. That is to say, most juvenile crimes are minor, and those horrendous juvenile crimes including murder and rape are quite rare cases. I believe it is better to implement ways to transfer or apply adult court standards to those extreme cases while unchanging the juvenile laws itself since most juvenile crimes are quite minor offences.

I think that is a super sticky subject, but I do agree, for the most part, with you. I do not, however, feel that children should be housed in the same location as their adult offenders because that just creates a child who is raised by criminals. And that would wreak havoc for society if that child was released. But I agree. I think drug crimes and victim less crimes should continue to charge kids as juveinilles and not as adults. But when it comes to rape and murder, if you have the knowledge of what it is and how to perform it, then your mind is mature enough to know right from wrong. Meaning that child should definately but charged as an adult but only in extreme and violent cases.

I agree that juveniles should be tried in adult courts so that future potential juvenile criminals would realize that they will be held accountable for their actions. The world is replete with young adults giving birth to children and not taking the time to love and supervise these children. Bringing new life into the world is a lifelong responsibility that many are not qualified for.
. I would go so far as to suggest that anyone who wants to have children should be held accountable for not raising these children to be contributing members of society. Maybe we should give examinations and issue permits and licenses only to those who prove they are qualified to care for children...

I do agree that people need to think before they have kids, but if you want to give people tests and issue licenses before they are allowed to have children, then you are stepping into a totalatarian government that would ultimately be a dictatorship and have way too much say in peoples' personal lives.
