To me, empowering women should not be giving them political appointments and taking them to the peak of politics. There are lot more ways to do that, yes, we agree they are the mothers of our nation and can actively and grately be involved in child-building.

There welfare should be carefully looked into like in terms of employment opportunities in the civil service and not ring-leaders in political misdemeanors.

For instance, what has a woman who is vast in the medical field who once occupied the head of NAFDAC (Dora Akunyili) has to do with the dissemination of information. Her role as a minister of information is not necessary, its just a waste of that ministry.

I think it is better if they start from early ages. In that way they get known wih a large track in the politic career.

Its good to have women within the political mainstream by providing them more opportunities, making shadow councils and helping them realize their potential. But at the same time, it is necessary to realize the cultural and social boundaries of some peole and stop pressing beyond which a particular society can accept.
Modernism should not mean making women void of their cultural heritage.

Good, but...

Women are an integral part of our society and so deserve the best. But i would say, puting them at the helm of affairs in politics is not the sure way to equate gender. They should be made to fill social posts as mothers of our world.

I would not dispute the fact, that their contribution in the society is low, they have contributed immensely and so deserve the support they get from government officials.

Different societies have different perspectives and therefore all societies have different needs.

THE CONCEPT'POLITICS AND EMPOWERING'IS A VERY VITAL ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE CRITICALLY TACKLED,IF WE ARE ONE PEOPLE ,ONE NATION,ONE CONTINENT,THEN THERE IS THE NEED TO ENSURE EQUALITY OF GENDER.ESPECIALLY IN AFRICA WOMEN ARE NOT RECOGNISED SO MUCH WHEN IT COMES TO EMPOWERMENT AND POLITICS,BUT I THINK IT IS TIME TO CREATE A SUITABLE PLATFORM FOR THEM TO ALSO EXPRESS THEIR VIEWS WHEN IT COMES TO DEVELOPMENT WHICH I BELIEVE REVOLVES ROUND BOTH POLITICS AND WOMEN EMPOWERMENT.THE BEIJING CONFERENCE HELD FOR WOMEN EMPHASIZED ON HOW TO MAKE OUR WOMEN FEEL APPRECIATED AND ALSO PARTICIPATE IN MATTERS PERTAINING TO PROPER NATION BUILDING AND EXPRESSING THEIR SOVEREIGN WILL .WOMEN IN GENERAL ARE OUR HELPERS ACCORDING TO THE HOLY BOOKS(BIBLE).THEREFORE I URGE THAT ALL WOMEN BE GIVEN A GENDER EQUALITY.smilecool

I do not support the school of thought that believe what a man can a woman can do far better. I would rather believe that this is a mere lipservice or brain coinage to encourage the women folks. A woman should not go into the political arena with such faulty ideaology so that she will not easily make a caricature of her gender. politics is what you have the natural instinct for, must have the charimatic berings and the personality potency to get involoved.

We should not forget in a hurry that the name woman doea not suggest weakness but just send a message of gender that has equal existence as the male folk. Any woman going into the political arena with a definte mission, and has the necessary competencies or prowess will make it well irrespective of odds existing in that arena.

In the African setting,Nigerian poitics is improving to accommodating women players in the cicle. Nigeria women are very determined, charimatic, intelligent and have the likely characteristics quotients that engenders for real and peaceful governance.

It's important for all groups to participate in government so that their interests can be represented. This includes women. By letting others represent our interests we are giving our power away and then wonder why we don't have what we need.

A strong society must have balance in order to be successful long-term. It's easy to see what countries are out of balance by looking at how they treat their women. When half the population does not actively participate in an activity, no one benefits from that.

My thoughts exactly. In many, many cultures of the world women have a defined role - and men have a defined role. Both genders are biologically tuned to perform their respective tasks in society.

In these societies you men don't want to be care-givers to the children and family, and women don't want to be the bread winners and the defenders of the family.

I recall growing up in the 1950's in the US when women still cherished their role as home-makers. The mother was home when the children needed them and the father worked hard to proved for shelter and the material needs of the family.

It was a good system... look at me as an example. I am perfect!

Epowering women takes a lot of courage as most socities tha we live in are mail dominated and live when marginalised in all spheres of the earths surface. In politics we there is need for women to campaign for high ranks at schools or organisations that they work in.In as much as there are challenges we ned to stand up so high.Besides from politics, there is need to have more projects that would sell our names be it techinically or practically.Indeed there is a lot that can be done if we are devoted to do sosmile

I believe women empowerment ideas are deceived ideas intend to put much pressure on women over their ability. I also believe the organ of women empowerment ideas came out from men wish to slave women, by showing that women must work like a man. There is a natural job division that both men and women are better than the other one, so we have to consider this.

Women are the one trying to be insensitive to issues of this status. How? Many young women right now are not seeing much reason s or anything tantalizing about politics. Some are still very much enchanted by the tiara of love and diroma or relational escapades. On getting in touch with reality, you see them blame seemingly male folks for women marginalization. Albeit, we can still help to understand that they need not fight for a right which was not taken from them.

Women are the creators of the world, I believe they can bring a change that we need. So, women need to empowered to bring in the frontline. It can be done if women realise that 'POLITICS IS A DIPLOMACY NOT A DIRTY GAME'angelic

ya there is a saying that if you train a girl child then hopes have been bestored in that family. Women play a very important role as far as nation building is concerned. women should be allowed to joined in political affairs freely and candidature fees for elections should be reduced considerably in order to atract more women in politics.
